Brother Coy Livingston Obituary

Brother Coy C. Livingston drifted into a calm, peaceful sleep Tuesday evening January 14, 2020 following his bath. He was born in Horry County on Sunday, May 6, 1928 to Brother Mannie and Sister Maebell Gause Livingston.* Coy C. was affectionally referred to as Cousin Coy, Uncle Coy, Grandpop, Mr. Coy and Daddy.  He was educated in Horry County Public Schools and the United States Army. Brothers Walter and Pearlie are deceased. Following the military,  he met Reverend Lonnie B. Chestnut, the late Reverend Covel Moore while attending a Conway Trade School. At the beckoning of his Cousin JB Gause, the newly married Coy and his bride travelled to Miami, Florida seeking employment.  Shortly, thereafter he returned to build a house.  Nearly seven years later, Cleve was born. He realized that farming would not be enough.  So,  joined Wicks Lumber as a delivery driver.  Next, Myrtle Beach Air Force Base as a commissary warehouseman. Ed James Holmes preceded him. His carpool has one survivor, Mr. Sammy Randall. Finally, the United States Postal service in Longs.  Coy’s Christian walk began early when he accepted the position of Sunday School Superintendent after Uncle Needham Gause.  He was drafted to the Choir. He was Trustee who added the roof on the Fellowship Annex. He learned that “family feuding” was not Christian. He learned to forgive and pass the baton onto the younger generation.

He was known for growing large watermelons. When he discovered that his steps were getting shorter, he desired having Reather nearby at all times.  When his health shifted again, he drove to work one last day!  The Postal Workers kindly announced that he was retired and could go back home.  He announced to the family that he had done something wrong.   Coy was united in Holy Matrimony to Reather Mae Crawford.  After Reather bought her first car, Coy dropped the Mae. His wife became Reather Livingston. Their home was blessed with children, grand-children, great-grandchildren and concerned family coming and going for meals and sweet tea.  His son-in-law Ronald, impressed him by keeping up the farm.  Stepdaughter Carolyn married Ernest Holloway (NJ).  Daughter Geraldine married Ronald Dixon. Cleve* married Darlene Hall (SC). Cleve and Darlene gave him two grandchildren, Kristen and Ryan. Geraldine shared Jason and Jamison.  Carolyn shared Pia (SC).  Lastly, in McLeod Seacoast, December 30th-Jan 10th he took his final lap. His sisters-in-law Luetta C. Gerald and Mamie Crawford were constant companions as we struggled to let go and let God have his way. On Sunday the 12th God instructed Geraldine to write Southern Medical Associates, Monday the 13th, Dr. Mills had a reality conversation with Reather. Daddy will be remembered like that energizing bunny. “Work for the night is coming.”
