God blessed Frank Young and N. Lourene Thompson Young with their third son, Cornelius Presta Young on November 22, 1947 in Georgetown County, both parents predeceased him death. Neal, as he was affectionately known by his family and friends, was a very kind and caring man, no-nonsense person, very private and a loner and a good man.
After graduating from Howard High School in June of 1965 he joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served his country for four years. He earned the following medals and accommodations: Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal. Sargent Cornelius Young also completed several education and training programs. While residing in Philadelphia, PA he worked at the post office as a mail carrier.
He was blessed with a daughter, Tuwann Jones. Later he met and married Gwendolyn Edwards and was blessed with two sons, Shaun Young and Kareem Young both of Philadelphia, PA,. After moving to Pawleys Island, SC, he was blessed with two more children, Cornelius Young and Deon Young both of Conway, SC. Cornelius was the eighth of nine children. Siblings that precede him in death, Ruth Gaskins, Sarah L. Smalls, Mattie N.D. Reed, Samuel E. Young and Frank Young, Jr.
He leaves to mourn his death his children, his siblings, Naomi O. Whitehead of Philadelphia, PA, Conchevia V. Upson/David W. Upson of Wyncote, PA and Ricky L. Young/Lila Young of Philadelphia, PA; seven grandchildren; thirty-two nieces and nephews and several other loving relatives.
