Irene Victoria Holmes Obituary

In His infinite wisdom God, our Heavenly Father, who doeth all things well, sent His death angel from heaven to gently escort Queenie Victoria Holmes to eternal rest on Monday, November 12, 2018.  Queenie opened her eyes for the final time on that morning to say hello to another beautiful day just as she had always for the last 78 years of her life and then after hearing her Heavenly Father’s call, she closed her eyes to depart this life in exchange for a life of “No Pain, No Sorrow.” “O death, where is thy sting?  O grave, where is thy victory?  1 Corinthians 15:55 (KJV)

Mrs. Queenie Victoria Holmes, daughter of the late Sam Mazyck, Sr. and Viola Singleton, was born on June 27, 1940 in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.  She departed this life peacefully while as a resident at Wake Assisted Living Memory Care in Raleigh, North Carolina.  Queenie was a member of a large family, which consisted of seven sisters and four brothers all who preceded her in death and one sister, Pearlie Alston, of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.

Queenie Victoria Holmes who all affectionately called “Squeak” was educated in Georgetown County Public Schools.  After high school she married her husband of more than 60 years, Mr. Lawrence Holmes, and relocated to the Burgess Community of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with their son, Earl (Vera) Mazyck, who also preceded her in death.

Queenie “Squeak” Holmes joined Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church after relocating to the Burgess Community where she served as a Trustee, Choir Member, Fundraiser, and President of the Savings Club.  She was a loyal faithful member and remained active until her health began to fail.

She embraced life to the fullest while always putting the needs of others before her own. Queenie “Squeak” Holmes enjoyed cooking, sewing, interior decorating and loved her family dearly.  All who were blessed to have known her are forever moved by her warmth, motherly spirit and charity.

Queenie “Squeak” Holmes leaves a legacy of love:  husband Lawrence Holmes; children Thelma Holmes, Michael (Terri) Holmes, Lynwood (Lisa) Holmes, Shelia Hackney, Irish (Chris) Farmer; daughter-in-law Vera Mazyck; grandchildren Salanna Holmes, Jarrod (Catherine) Mazyck, Michael D. Holmes, Stedmond Mazyck, Brittany Holmes, Braxtion Holmes, and Chandler Hackney; great grandchildren Josiah Mazyck, Arealya Sutton, Aryanna Mazyck, and Elijah Mazyck; sister Pearlie Alston; four sister-in-laws, two brother-in-laws, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
