James Edward "Nathan" Small Obituary

Mr. James E. Nathan Small was born August 18, 1934 in Bucksport, SC to the late James Buster Small and Myrtle Washington Small.  He made his transition to his heavenly home on Monday, October 21, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.

Nathan was educated in the public schools of Horry County and was a 1952 graduate of Whittemore High School.  He furthered his education at Denmark Technical College, where he obtained a Degree in Electronics.

Nathan accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined Cherry Hill Missionary Baptist Church at an early age.

He was married to the late Daisy Mae Livingston Small. Nathan was the father of six children: Terrie, James, Jeanella, Cynthia, James Christopher, and Nathan.

Nathan returned to Conway after graduating from Denmark Technical College and embarked on his lifelong career of TV Repairman and Salesman.  Realizing the need and fulfilling his dream to own his own business, Nathan served Horry County for over 52 years as the owner and operator of Small’s T.V.  He was honored as the #1 Salesperson for RCA with the largest floor plan at his TV shop.

He was involved in many community activities, including serving as Chairman of the Conway Housing Authority Board for ten years, a member of the Conway Chamber of Commerce for four years, and the Horry County Scout Advocacy Board for two years. He was honored by the City of Conway for 40 years of Service as a minority business in the City of Conway. He was honored by Conway High School at their annual Ethnic Buffet for 45 years of service as a Minority Business in Conway. Small’s TV was also the sponsor of a bowling team for the Women’s Commercial League of Myrtle Beach.  He served as a Notary Public for 8 years. He also received the Businessman of the year award from Cherry Hill Missionary Baptist Church.

Nathan was preceded in death by his parents, James Buster Small and Myrtle Washington Small, a daughter, Cynthia Lenora Small Jenkins, and a sister, Verma Sherman.

He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted daughter, Terrie Macklin, Bridgeport, Ct., a daughter, Jeanella Livingston, Atlanta, Ga; three sons: James (Sheri) Livingston, Loris, SC, James Christopher Small, Atlanta, Ga and Nathan (Jacquadalyn) Small, Myrtle Beach, SC. Four grandchildren: Kendall (Jesika) Jenkins, Rockhill, SC, Kyle (Amber) Jenkins, Conway, SC and Jeremy (Ashley) Jenkins, Germany, and Joshua Livingston, Loris, SC.  Seven great grands: Amiyah, Aniya, Kyle Jr., Ariyah, Kasen, Asher and Kayden. A devoted sister and best friend, Janie M. Friday; special niece, Diane Friday Bromell and special nephew, Aaron P. Friday; and his loving nieces and nephews, William R. Floyd, Linda F. Wright, Edward Earl Friday, Terry F. Kennedy and Kenneth L. Friday and a special friend, Edward Jordan and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held 12:00p.m., Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Cherry Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation will be held at McKiever Funeral Home, Friday, October 25, 2019 from 6:00pm - 8:00p.m.
