Mr. Samuel Mitchell was born to the late Washington Mitchell, Sr. and Queen Bell Holmes Mitchell in Sumter, SC. on April 10, 1938.  He was one of ten Children;  Sadie, Moses, James, Frank, Mabel, Washington, Roosevelt and Queen preceded him in death.

After leaving S.C.  in 1956 he moved to Washington,DC.  He held several jobs in the service industry and he worked for various taxi cab companies for 43 years.  He always had great stories to share about his experiences driving a taxi in the big city, driving around politicians, tourists and locals.  Samuel loved The Lord and trusted Him throughout his lifetime, he was called to ministry in 1979 and preached at churches throughout the greater Washington,DC area.

It was in Washington, DC., where he met and married the love of his life , Eleanor Gwynn in 1969 where they lived together until November 2016 when they relocated to Myrtle Beach, SC.  In 2016 they joined Mount Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church in Myrtle Beach,SC  where they found a church home.

Samuel was a great cook, loved to tell stories and play practical jokes, he thought he was really funny and he would laugh at his own jokes.  He was a man of few words, very thoughtful and kind, always willing to help others.  His last days were spent in peaceful communion with God and surrounded by loved ones.  He was not a complainer and found joy in each day he shared with his family.

He leaves to remember him his devoted wife, Eleanor G. Mitchell of almost 50 years of marriage; two sons Barney Mitchell ( Desiree) , Barry Mitchell ( Kim) ; One Daughter Michelle Mitchell Walden (Ken); grandson, Barry Mitchell, Jr. , great granddaughter, Aniya Mitchell; brother Freddy Mitchell( Stella); best friend Najee Baith; nieces, nephews and a host of other living relatives and caring friends to continue to celebrate his lfe.  He also leaves his granddog Nikki who he loved so dearly.
