Alberta P. McMillan, affectionately known as “Mrs. Bert” was the daughter of Inez McCoy and Vernon Williamson, born in Conway, South Carolina. Alberta P. McMillan departed this life on May 27, 2020 at her place of residence in Florence, SC. She was educated in the Horry County Public School system, graduating class of 1966. Alberta later continued her studies at Horry Georgetown Technical College.
Alberta worked several years at Dr. Lee’s Dental Office in Conway, SC; later became an Associate at Belk’s Department Store and retired after 25 years. Alberta would later work at Jones New York at Tanger Outlet. Alberta enjoyed retail and loved working directly with customers and merchandise.
Alberta was a faithful member of New Beginnings Christian Outreach Ministry where she was an Usher and President of Pastor’s Aide Committee. Alberta loved her new church family and most of all, enjoyed working and serving the Lord. Alberta displayed her relationship with the Lord in the kind acts and love she showed to all; spreading love and joy throughout her community. Alberta loved to travel and visit her children and various places around the world. In her spare time, she enjoyed decorating for events, fishing, cooking and baking. Alberta loved to travel and met no strangers in her passing. To know her, is to love her. She welcomed all into her friend and family circle. Alberta has helped raise a village in and around the areas of Conway and beyond. She was well loved and respected throughout the community and wherever she traveled.
Mrs. McMillan was formerly married to the late George R. Hemingway, this union was blessed with five children, Gregory Hemingway (Anissa), Christopher Hemingway (Gina), Cassandra Williams (James), George Hemingway, Jr. (Teresa) and Jeffrey Hemingway. Alberta affectionately accepted and welcomed another son, Craigory Green (Connie) whom she called her own.
Alberta has eleven Grandchildren, Destinee Sanchez-Hogue, Gregory J. Hemingway Jr., Jacqueline R. Murray, Christopher Hemingway, Jr., Jory Hemingway, Shania P. Murray, MaKayla and Michael Hemingway, Bryana Green, Mark and Maurice Hemingway.
Alberta later married Eddie H. McMillan who preceded her in death. Alberta and Eddie spent years traveling, exploring the world and visiting her children. She later became his caregiver until he was called home.
She leaves to cherish her memory, six sisters, Augustine Brown, Barbara J Brown, Christine Brown, Bertha Henderson (Neil), Frances Brown and Bonnie Eaddy; six brothers, James C. McCoy (deceased), Thomas “Lee” Brown, Winston “Bubba” Brown, Benny Eaddy, Jr., James Brown (Cindy) and Robert Eaddy.
Alberta also has additional siblings, Magaline Williamson (deceased), Shelline (Earl) Swinton, Eugene (Maxine)Williamson, Vernon Williamson Jr. (deceased), Valerie Williamson and Doretha (Kenny) Rogers.
Alberta leaves to cherish two uncles, Johnny McCoy, Jr. (Betty) and Willie Earl McCoy (Yunah) and Aunt, Helen McCoy. Alberta has a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends and special friends that have stood by her side for many years.
The Memorial Service for Alberta P. McMillan will be Friday, June 5, 2020 10:00am, The Oaks at McKiever Funeral Home, Conway, SC.
