Mr. Althen Lee Doctor gained his wings and entered eternal peace on April 14, 2021 at Sentara Leigh Hospital, Norfolk, VA. Althen was affectionately known as “Goo” to his family and friends. He was born to Mr. Alford Doctor (who preceded him in death) and Mrs. Gladys Doctor both of Conway, SC. Althen received his education in Horry County public schools and graduated from Conway High. He enlisted in the US Navy where he served for 3 years then settled in Norfolk, VA. He was employed at Huntington Eagle Industries for 44 years. He often brought home pictures of ships they worked on for his Mom to see.
Althen was soft spoken and sometimes quiet, yet so much fun to be around. You always enjoyed your time with him. He loved to talk about Sanford and Son, tell jokes and laugh. He also loved eating cakes his sister would make for him when he would come home, and he would not share. He also had a big love for Rod Stewart. He went to many of his concerts, knew the words to all his songs, and sent videos home of himself doing mini concerts and we loved to watch. He also had a love for cars, occasionally he would drive home his bright red limited-edition Camaro.
Althen was preceded in death by his father Mr. Alford Doctor and his brother Mr. Frank Doctor. He leaves to cherish his loving memories: two children, Teraine Brown of Columbia, SC and Brian Doctor of Norfolk, VA, a loving mother, Ms. Gladys Doctor of Conway, SC, one brother James (Maryann) Harriott of Conway, SC, two sisters, Mary (George) Parmley of Conway, SC and Kimberly Greene of Columbia, SC, two grandchildren, Tymeisha Meggett of Dallas, TX and Valecia (Lorenzo) Newton of Columbia, SC, five great-grandchildren Janilah, Aurielle, Genesis, Kamryn and Roman, his loving fiancé Ms. Sandra Hill-Robertson. There are also a host of nieces, nephews and cousins that loved him dearly.
