"To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." Dorothy (Gift of God or God's Gift) Poinsette Smith of Conway, SC was called home to be with Father on April 7, 2020.
Born and raised in Conway, Dorothy or Dot as she was affectionately known by many, attended 1st -12th grade in Conway and graduated from Whittemore High School. She then attended and earned her Bachelor’s Degree from South Carolina State University. Soon after graduating, she and her high school sweetheart and husband, James, made New York City their home where they raised three children and welcomed four grand-children and later one great-grand (all from NY). Her profound passion in helping others, lead to a long career with the Department of Social Services where she retired after more than 30 years of exemplary service.
Dot truly loved the Lord! Accepting Christ as her savior at an early age, she was a faithful and active member of Community Protestant Church in NYC for over 30 years before moving back to Conway and rejoining her childhood church, Bethel AME.
She will be missed by many and can rest in eternal peace knowing that she walked in love and lead a life pleasing to God.
