Dorothy Turmon Obituary

Dorothy Gagum Turmon , the daughter of the late Rebecca Poinsett Gagum and Mack Gagum Sr, passed away in her home surrounded by family on March 14, 2024. She was born in Murrells Inlet SC.  The family later relocated to Conway SC.

Dorothy went to Whitmore Elementary and Whitmore High School.  She went as far as the 10th grade, and started working at Conway Hospital.  She later moved to Brooklyn NY and stayed with her Mother's sister, Annie Poinsett.  Aunt Annie helped her getting employment as House Keeper in the Hotel Industry.  There she worked for over 20 years until she became ill and had to retire.  While she was working, she was  married to the late Korean and Vietnam  Army Veteran Daniel Turmon, who served his country for 24 years.

Dorothy was a sweet loving family woman who would give you the shirt off her back. She is always giving of her time and talents.  One thing she would do every year would purchase Jane Parker Fruit Cakes from A & P Grocery store. She would  have one for everyone in the family, including personally taking one to the employees of Conway National Bank. She would also take care of her neighbor the late Dawsey and Elmira Conner. She would clean and even take care of Dawsey Conners Mother, the late Lou Conner. This is the big heart and love Dorothy had for her people and her family.

Dorothy also was a faithful member of Bethel AME church until she was unable to attend.  Many times you can hear Dorothy praying in her room. She would pray for her family every night.  She would always pray and ask God, "If I ever did anything to hurt anybody, God please forgive me". This was one of her daily prayers, and she loved Gospel music.

Also preceding her in death was her two sisters, Gussie Gagum Best,  Sarah Exzena Gagum, and her brother Willie Levie "Bill" Gagum. She leaves behind two brothers, Mack Neil Gagum Jr. of Conway, and Nathaniel Lee Brown Gagum I, of Trevose PA.  Also she leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends .
