Dr. Valentine Chima-Spera Nwanegwo was born August 8, 1947, in Awo-Mbieri, Nigeria. To Joseph and Patricia Nwanegwo. He passed away peacefully at his home at the age of 77, surrounded by his family in Conway, South Carolina on August 12, 2024. His passion for education was evident by pursuing and earning his bachelor’s and master’s Degree from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California. He continued his education by earning his Ph. D. in Political Science from La Salle University in Louisiana. He was a Professor of Political Science at various colleges and universities, most recently Horry-Georgetown Technical College until retirement. He was a devout Roman Catholic and a parishioner of St. James Catholic Church in Conway, SC. He was proud of his Igbo heritage and traveled back to Nigeria on several occasions. He engrained those same Igbo customs and traditions including cooking the cultural cuisines and sharing this with his family here in the United States. He had a passion for politics and current events, and enjoyed coaching and watching soccer, especially any sporting events his children were involved in. He had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening and the upkeep of his home here in South Carolina.
He is survived by his wife, Dr. Sheree Nwanegwo, and their three children Jacquelle Kelechi, Julia Chinyere, and Christopher Michael-Emeka. He is also survived by his former wife Anna and their three children Ifunanya, Ada, and Amarachi, his brothers Joseph, Eliseus, and Robert, and predeceased by his brothers Giddeus, and Thaddeus. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and a host of other close relatives.
