Mrs. Ernestine Soles Martin was born to the late D.W. Soles and Ella Rouse on May 14th, 1924 in Columbus County, North Carolina and departed this life on May 31st, 2024 in Simpsonville, South Carolina. She had two brothers that preceded her to the grave, U.T. Soles and A.W. Rouse. Her adopted parents were the late Fletcher and Eliza Rouse. She was married to a wonderful man, Woodson S. Martin, for 20 years before he received his heavenly wings.
She lived her early years in Loris, South Carolina before moving to New York City, New York in 1952. She remained there for 25 years, and it was there she met the man of her dreams, Woodson. They would later return to Loris and make it their home. She was a loyal member of Flagpatch Missionary Baptist church until 2002 and later, Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist church as her final spiritual home. She was an avid reader, and her favorite book was the Bible. She was a devoted and diligent Sunday school teacher at both churches. She lived a wonderful and full life in which she touched emotionally everyone she encountered. She attempted to live the values that she taught with her words and works.
She was a Godly woman and to many she was a mother and to almost all a friend. She had a special way about her to make everyone feel loved and important She leaves behind a son, Christopher Gause, his wife Sharica and 4 endearing grandsons, Malcolm, Mylan, Miles and Martin of Simpsonville, South Carolina. She will be missed greatly, but her love and impact will be felt for many years to come. A heartfelt thank you goes to Larry Gore, Blonda Alston and Linda Soles who held a special place in her heart.
