Hilrie Edison Powell

And God Shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow; nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain. For the former things are passed away. 

Brother Hilrie E Powell departed this life on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, while a patient at Conway Medical Center in Conway South Carolina. He was born in Hallsboro North Carolina on January 29, 1941 to the late Robert H. Powell and Maggie Lee Smith Powell. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers. 

Hilie received his formal education in the North Carolina Public Schools system. North Carolina is also where he began his christian walk as a young man. He Joined the New Hope Baptist in East Orange, New Jersey where he continued his christian walk. He was ordained as a Deacon at New Hope on June 30, 1996 and served faithfully and diligently in that capacity until 2003. After retiring, relocating to Conway, South Carolina; Hilrie Joined Cherry Hill and attended until his health no longer allowed him to. He was joined in Holy Matrimony to Peggy Alston Powell on September 30, 1972. 

In 1959 Hilrie journeyed from the small town of Hallsboro, North Carolina to Newark New Jersey where he remained until he retired in 2003. While in New Jersey Hilrie enlisted in the New Jersey National Guard for a period of time. He was employed at Marriott In Flight for 19 years until the company closed; at that time he found employment at The Ford Motor Company. He retired from The Ford Motor Company in 2003 after 26 years of service. 

He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving and devoted wife; Mrs Peggy Powell of Conway, South Carolina; One Son Anthony Powell (JoAnne) of Conway, South Carolina; two Daughters Shiretha Mattocks ( Alan) of Elmsford New York, and Akira Parmley (Issac) of Conway, South Carolina; six (6) Grandchildren: Cameron & Makiela Connor Of Elmsford, New York; Kamal, Kieanna, & Kalies Mattocks of Elmsford, New York and Aaliyak Parmley of the home. One brother Arthur M Powell (Halena). Eight Sister-in-Laws: Gladiola Boone, Devetta Alston, Margaret Alston, Lorraine Burroughs, Sarah King, Lucinda Whitfield, Betty Alston, & Priscilla Dunikins. Two Brother- In Laws: Judson Whitfield & Grady Dunbar; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins , and friends. 

and found his way back south where he enjoyed retirement in the small town of Conway, South Carolina.
