Mr. Kelly McCray Jr. was born December 7, 1959 in Hemingway, South Carolina to Lilly Sumpter.
Kelly received his formal education in Georgetown County school system graduating from Choppee High School in 1977. He joined the United States Army in 1981 as an infantry solder. Affectionately known as “Candy Boy”, he believed in laughter and being the life of the party. Anywhere he went you were guaranteed to leave with a smile on your face and love and laughter in your heart. Kelly was a true “jack of all trades, master of none.” His skill set included being a machine operator, skilled roofer, certified welder, and working in the security field.
After his health failed, most of his days were filled with watching sports, westerns, or going fishing with his brother or son-in-law. Kelly had a kind heart and truly never met a stranger. Those left to cherish to his memories include his loving mother: Lilly Sumpter Woodall, Hemingway, SC; his children, Kinya Mishoe, Marion, SC, Shameka (Jerome) Morrison, Hemingway, SC, Kelly Mishoe, Conway, SC, and Antwan McCray, Conway, SC; one brother, Thomas (Rachel) McCray, Myrtle Beach, SC; two sisters, Sandra Wright and Gwendolyn McCray, Hemingway, SC; 17 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, his Uncle Bigmun Sumpter (who was raised as his brother), his goddaughter LaKeshia Bryant and a host of other loving family members and really close friends.
He was predeceased in death by his wife, Rita Mishoe McCray and grandson Maurice McCray.
