Larry Jackson Obituary

The Service Will Be Live Streamed On This Website At 11:00 Am Friday.

Larry Earl Jackson was born in Conway, South Carolina, on June 16, 1949. He was the
only son of the late James L. Jackson and the late Fariel E. Jackson. Larry was baptized
into the church at an early age, and he was a lifelong member of Hemingway Chapel
A.M.E. Church, where he sang on the choir and served on the trustee board. Larry
attended Whittemore High School and he graduated with the class of 1967. After high
school, he attended South Carolina State College, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts
degree in Business Administration in 1972. After graduating from college, Larry worked
for the South Carolina Probation and Parole Department of the 15 th Judicial Circuit as a
Parole Officer for over a decade. He then went to work for Lowe’s Home Improvement
Store as a Stock Manager until his retirement in 2012.
However, with all his success in the criminal justice and management fields, if he was
ever asked his occupation, Larry would answer “Farmer”. Growing up in the Sandridge
Community of Conway, SC, Larry's love of farming was cultivated at an early age when
he would help his father, Mr. James L., on the family farm by learning how to plant crops
and raise livestock. In retirement, Larry could be seen rising early to pick okra and feed
his cows, and he would supply watermelon, okra, collard greens and more to the
community. Larry worked his farm every day, even until the day he transitioned from
this life on August 3, 2022. He was loved and well respected in the community, and he
will be greatly missed.
Larry leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Kim Mitchell (Dexter) of Fayetteville,
GA.; three grandchildren Dexter Mitchell, II, of Charleston, SC, Taylor Mitchell of
Jackson, MS, and Daniel Mitchell of Myrtle Beach, SC. He also leaves two sisters,
Evelyn Pack of Conway, SC and Marthena Menendez (Martin) of Conway, SC; one
niece, Jacinda Wright of Conway, SC, and one great-nephew, Khadafi Wright. Larry
also leaves a host of relatives and friends who will miss him dearly, but one friend who
will miss him the most: Cleve Sanders and his family (Thelma “BeBe”, Bernetta, BJ and
Lauren) of Myrtle Beach, SC.

The Family will be receiving guest at the home of Mr. Larry E. Jackson at  3655 Kates Bay Hwy, Conway, SC 29527 beginning on Sunday, August 7, 2022 from 1pm to 7pm and for the remainder of the week until the services from 5pm-9pm.
