He loved farming, and partnered with a number of local residents in the Supply area. He Co-Founded the Royal Oaks Concerned Citizens Association (ROCCA). He served as its President until his death. He and his best friend, John Hankins, served as the guiding force of the organization, which is designed to serve the interest of the community. Lewis’ crowning achievement was acting as council for the community as they successfully overturned the plans of the Brunswick County establishment to place a landfill in the Royal Oaks community. He and his friend John Hankins were honored by the NAACP for their work in this effort.
