Luella “Sister” Washington, age 79, peacefully departed this life on March 12, 2026 at Conway Medical
Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 12, 1946, in the Bucksport community
of Conway, South Carolina, to the late Ben Washington and Viola Sessions Washington.
Luella attended Whittemore High School and, at an early age, accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.
She was a devoted and faithful member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, where she actively served
as a Missionary.
Luella was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and devoted friend whose life was defined by kindness,
resilience, and a generous heart. She had a warm spirit that made people feel welcome wherever she went,
and she found great joy in caring for the people around her.
Luella believed in encouraging others, sharing wisdom, and showing love through both her
words and her actions.
She dedicated many years of service as a custodian with the Horry County School District. Later, she
continued her career as a cook at Conway Medical Center, where she faithfully worked until her retirement.
Through her hard work, cheerful presence, and caring nature, she touched the lives of many coworkers,
students, patients, and community members.
Outside of work, Luella embraced the simple joys of life. She loved spending time in her garden, nurturing
flowers and plants with patience and care. Music also filled her home and her heart—especially the oldies
she loved to listen to and dance to. Whether tending to her garden, enjoying a favorite song, or spending
time with family, Luella had a special way of finding beauty and joy in everyday moments.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her children: Bobby Washington (Yvonne), Eddie
Washington (Angelique), and Lisa Adams (Spencer). She was the proud grandmother of 10
grandchildren and a loving great-grandmother to 14 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her
tremendous pride and happiness.
Luella is also survived by her loving siblings: Henry Lee Washington (Leola), Ben Washington Jr.
(Alberta), and Calvin Washington.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Stuart Bryd; her sisters, Eva
Davis, Nora Jackson, and Shirley Mae Washington; and her brother, Rufus Vereen.
She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends
who will forever cherish her memory and the love she shared with them.
