Mr. Luther Mack Graham Jr., lovingly known to many as “Luther,” peacefully departed this life on May 20, 2026. Born on September 24, 1938, he was the beloved son of the late Rev. Luther M. Graham and Bessie L. Watts Graham. Luther lived a life rooted in faith, family, fellowship, and community, leaving behind a legacy that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Luther received his education through the Horry County school system, attending Myrtle Beach Colored School and later Whittemore High School. During a time when opportunities were limited, he carried himself with dignity, perseverance, and strength, qualities that would define the man he became throughout his life.
He was the last surviving sibling of a large and loving family. Luther was preceded in death by six siblings: Sidney Graham, Christine Abraham, Bessie Turner, Cecil Graham, Catherine Garner, and Evelyn Britton. Though he deeply missed each of them, he often carried their memories with him through stories, laughter, and cherished family moments.
In 1969, Luther married the love of his life, Ira Mae Smalls. Their union was one built on enduring love, commitment, and companionship. Together they shared many years of memories, family gatherings, laughter, and unwavering support for one another through every season of life.
Luther worked as a bartender for many years, a profession that perfectly matched his outgoing personality and love for people. He never met a stranger and had a special way of making everyone feel welcomed, comfortable, and appreciated. Whether sharing stories, jokes, or simply enjoying the company of others, Luther was known for bringing joy and warmth wherever he went.
A man who truly enjoyed life, Luther had a great love for good food, family fellowship, and entertainment. He especially loved watching western movies and could often be found enjoying classic westerns with family and friends. He was also an avid fan of sports, particularly golf, football, and basketball, passionately following his favorite teams and players over the years. Golf held a particularly special place in his heart. He spent many years both caddying and playing the game himself, finding peace, happiness, and camaraderie on the golf course. For Luther, golf was more than a sport; it was a source of joy and connection.
Above all else, Luther treasured his family. He leaves to cherish his precious memories his devoted wife, Ira Mae Graham; his loving children, Maryanne Eaddy, Leona Lewis-Powell, Loretta Lewis, Veronica Graham and Timothy Palmer; and four generations of grandchildren who brought immense pride and happiness to his life.
He also leaves to mourn his passing one sister-in-law, Mosella Smalls; one brother-in-law, O’Neal Smalls; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were touched by his kindness, humor, and presence.
The family extends special acknowledgment and heartfelt gratitude to his two special grandsons, Corey Eaddy and Quayshawn Graham, for their love, care, and dedication shown to him throughout the years. Special thanks are also extended to the caring staff of Angel Oak Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Tidelands Community Hospice, James Pryor, and Barbara Ann Smalls for their compassion, support, and kindness during his time of need.
Though Luther Mack Graham Jr. has departed this earthly life, his laughter, wisdom, love for family, and joyful spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy of love, resilience, and fellowship will never be forgotten.
