Pastor Dr. Cassie R. Burroughs, 80, returned to her heavenly home on August 3, 2020 after a valiant battle with a long illness. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.

Pastor Burroughs was born to the late James and Elizabeth Alford of Green Sea, SC on February 26,1940. A graduate of Finklea High School, she was inspired to further her education and she pursued a secretarial degree in Rock Hill, SC. She was immersed in the Christian community which would be her lifelong support at an early age. After graduating with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration and a Masters and Doctorate Degree of Divinity in Fort Worth, Texas, she shared by becoming a loving and dedicated pastor for 28 years at Life Outreach International Ministries of Myrtle Beach, S.C. In 1985 a vision was implanted in her heart to become an entrepreneur which afforded her the opportunity of being the owner and Principle of “Life Christian Academy, Myrtle Beach, S.C.” Pastor Burroughs still found the time to share the love of being a true innovator, homemaker, trailblazer, mother and grandmother.

Pastor Burroughs was blessed with a large and loving family. She married her best friend and fellow parishioner, Elder Sam Burroughs. They raised three children with love, respect and humility. She taught them leadership, the importance of education, and overall life skills. From the very beginning, she dedicated her children to God and encouraged them to explore the beauty of the gospel. Pastor Burroughs was an educator at heart. She was kind-hearted and very intelligent. She always made time to be of service, answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how big or small.

She is preceded in death by her husband Elder Sam Burroughs; her parents James and Elizabeth Alford; two brothers Freddie and Donald Alford. Pastor Burroughs is survived by her family and church community, two daughters: Thomasina B. Williams Charlotte, N.C. and Beverly Anne Burroughs of Lawton, Oklahoma; her son: Tony Burroughs; her grandchildren: Patience Burroughs, Cassie Williams, Samuel Burroughs and Isiah Burroughs; her siblings Jeredine (Earl) Gore, Geneva Benson, James Alford, Willie (Doris) Alford, Rev. Ronald (Sarah) Alford. God blessed her with a host of spiritual children, nieces and nephews, which includes but is not limited to: Gwendolyn Scott, Paul Scott, Kathleen King, Promise Scott and Lynn Woods. Pastor Burroughs will be dearly missed by all her loved ones, as we celebrate the thought of Knowing, that she is at peace with The Creator.
