Prince Bowens Obituary

Prince Charles Bowens, III, was born to the late Prince Charles Bowens, II and Frances Gainey Bowens on December 12, 1949, in Myrtle Beach, SC. He was educated in the Horry County School System, graduating from Myrtle Beach High School, class of 1967. Prince was a part of the group the students who desegregated Myrtle Beach High School in 1965. After graduating from Myrtle Beach High School, Prince attended South Carolina State College (now University) obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree. He later attended the University of Pheonix obtaining his Master of Science degree. Prince also received trade certifications in health inspection, food safety, liturgy and writing from Horry-Georgetown Technical College.

Prince was a cook in the Myrtle Beach area and also owning “Prince’s Place”, a local community staple for soul food and a good time. Prince worked in the Horry County School System as a Behavior Interventionist for over 20 years before his retirement, working in all Myrtle Beach Cluster Schools. Prince is a retired veteran from the United States Army, being honorably discharged in 1973. Prince was a devoted and active member of the American Legion Post #196 of Myrtle Beach. Prince was also a Boy Scout Troop Leader for the Myrtle Beach area.

Prince was a devoted member of Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church all of his life, working and serving on the brotherhood, cuisine, and audio and video ministries until his health declined. Prince loved the outdoors, spending time planting fruits and vegetables and spending time on the pier fishing. Prince lived through his sickness and every time someone would ask how he has been doing, he would reply gracefully with “God has been so good to me”.

Prince was preceded in death by his parents and a host of many other relatives and friends.

He leaves to cherish fond memories to; his loving and devoted wife, Queen Esther Young Bowens, of the home, three daughters, Kasheba Bowens of Myrtle Beach, SC, Venata Oliver of Poughkeepsie, NY, and Kamarra Bowens of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one brother-in-law, Bobby Young of Myrtle Beach, SC; four sisters-in-law, Vernell (Burnice) Alston and Jackie Spivey of Myrtle Beach, SC; Rena Bragg of Holly Ridge, NC, and Geraldine Hassell of Fayetteville, NC; five grandchildren, Nazyah Oliverro, Zjakir Foxx, and Zhimari Foxx, all of Poughkeepsie, NY.; Special grandchildren that he raised as his own children; Jah’Searie Bowens and Alexia Bowens, both of Myrtle Beach, SC; special cousins, Kutura (Bill) Bowens Lynch of Lawrenceville, GA, Erica (Barry) King Grissett of Lexington, SC,Tabitha (Tim) Bowens Busby, Roscoe Davis, and Max Bowens, all of Myrtle Beach, SC, Margie Scott of Durham, NC, and Dwayne Bowens of Houston, Texas, and three godchildren; Minister Leonard Favorite, Jr. and Veronica Graham of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Tiffany Davis Parker of Greenville, SC, and special niece Dr. Deshana Alston of Clinton, MD. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.
