Mrs. Rhoda Ann Scott Hemingway, 70, departed this life Friday, September 20, 2019 in Horry County.
Family will receive friends, Monday, September 23, 2019 at McKiever Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the Blessing for Mrs. Hemingway will be held at 6:00 p.m.. A Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., at the Sandridge Community Cemetery, Cates Bay Highway, Conway, SC.
Mrs. Rhoda Ann Scott Hemingway was born to the late George Washington Scott and the late Esterine Scott in Conway, South Caroilna.
Rhoda was raised by the late Lizzie Faison and was a proud 1968 alumnus of Whittemore High School. She continued her education at Youngstown State University obtaining her degree in Applied Science specializing in Childhood Education. She moved to Hollywood, Florida in 1968 with her then husband James Edward Brown. To this union one daughter was born, Utocqua Grissett. She would later relocate to Ohio in 1974 before returning to Conway in the mid 80s. She then met and married the love of her life the late LeRoy Hemingway. To this union one son was born, LeTavious Hemingway.
If Rhoda was anything, she was an extremely hard worker. She worked at a local YMCA in Ohio before coming home and working at the Pavilion for a short time in Myrtle Beach. She culminated her working career with over 25 years of service with the AVX Corporation.
Rhoda spent 33 phenomenal years married to the late LeRoy Hemingway. She worked and loved hard to ensure that her kids would be successful in this world.
Rhode is survived by her beautiful daughter, Utocqua (Othel) Grissett of Conway, SC; her son, LeTavious (Devin) Hemingway of Augusta, GA; sister, Elouise Scott Clark of Conway, SC; nephews: Michael Clark and Doug (Elizabeth) Clark of Conway, SC; nieces: Kim Williams and Stephanie Hall of Youngstown, Ohio; grandsons: Byron Grissett, DeAntre' Campbell and Liam Hemingway. A special son, Edward (Nicole) McKenzie of Atlanta, GA, as well as, a host of cousins, in-laws and relatives.
