Richard Bell Obituary

Mr. Richard James Bell, Jr, affectionately known as Ricky, departed this life Wednesday, March 11, 2020. He was born March 30, 1959 in Wilmington, North Carolina to the late Richard Bell, Sr and the late Mozetta Huggins Bell.

Ricky was educated in the public school system of Horry County. He attended Horry-Georgetown Technical College and earned his certificate in welding. His first employment was with the AVX Corporation in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. In later years, he became employed with Horry County Schools. Throughout his life, Ricky operated and managed, Bell's Lounge, a family-owned business known for its famous fried chicken sandwich.

Ricky joined Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Bucksport, South Carolina. As a faithful member of Mt. Moriah, he used his talent as a drummer to serve the Lord. He made a joyful noise when he played the drums for the choirs. His love for music and talent as a drummer spanned 40 years. Ricky played for several choirs throughout Horry County. In addition to playing the drums, he also was an inaugural member of the Bucksport Male Choir.

Ricky never met a stranger and always greeted you with a hug and big smile. He loved helping people and enjoyed dedicating his service to the Bucksport Community. He was as well known and like individual.

Ricky leaves to cherish his loving memory, two devoted children: Reginald Owens (Joanna) of Chester, Virginia and Brian Owens of Conway, SC; one brother, Kenny Bell; one sister, Vanessa Bell both of Bucksport, SC; one grandson, Jerrick Owens; three aunts: Sadie Lee Franks, Mary Vault and Wilhelmina Bell; two uncles: Ernest (Demure) Bell of Wilmington, NC, John Nichols of Conway, SC; one niece: Brittney Bell of Florence, SC; a special friend: Patricia Miller and a host of sorrowing cousins and friends.
