Robert Lee Hemingway, affectionately known as Boy or Boogie, was born on March 4, 1938 in the Bucksville Community. He departed this life on Monday, September 14, 2020 at Conway Manor. He was the son of the late George Hemingway and Rudell Mitchell Hemingway.
Robert attended school in Horry County. He relocated to New York for many years before returning to the Bucksville Community. Robert was married to the late Geraldine Hemingway. This union was blessed with five children. He is preceded in death by three siblings: George Hemingway, Carrie Grissett, Maggie Owens and his son, LeRoy (Rhoda)Hemingway.
Robert worked as a horse trainer while living in New York and was a truck driver. Upon returning to Horry County, he was employed by the Sasser Family for many years.
Robert is survived by his sons: Robert Earl Hemingway and Bennet Hemingway of Conway, SC, Bobby (Nicholette) Hemingway of Myrtle Beach, SC, Rev. Christopher (Gloria) Johnson and Henry A. Hemingway (Tony) of Hazlehurst, GA and Micheal Anthony Novak of Fayetteville, NC. Robert is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Those left to cherish fond memories are his siblings: Sarah (Rolland) Conner of Conway, SC, Josephine Isom of Atlantic Beach, SC, Francis Pyatt and Patricia Hemingway of Rochester, NY, Mary Hannah of Columbia, SC and Rudell (James) Moultrie of Plantersville, SC; nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends. Robert developed a special bond with Wendell Moses, Ernest Fairwell and Robin Sasser.
