Savannah Bernice Harps Smith was born on October 22, 1937 in Conway, South Carolina to the late Wash Harps and Elizabeth Huggins Harps. She entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 30 at her home.
Savannah attended the public schools of Horry County and was a 1956 graduate of Whittemore High School. She was a dedicated employee at Conway Medical Center for over thirty years. At an early age she joined Hemingway Chapel AME Church, where she served on many ministries such as Steward, Stewardess, Chorales Choir, Senior Choir, YPD, Secretary, Usher, Kitchen committee and Missionary. She loved her church and worked faithfully until her health declined. She provided transportation to and from church for her lifelong best friends Mrs. Essie Marion and Mrs. Oliva (Bunk) Tucker.
On March 20, 1957, she was joined in Holy matrimony to the late Dan Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, William Huggins and Johnny Harps; her two sons, Eldred Dan Smith and Patrick Shawn Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memory tow loving and devoted daughters, Cynthia (O’Neal) Sherman of Bucksport, SC and Jeanette Smith of the home; daughter-in-law, Sabrina Smith of Conway, SC; one sister, Cassie Mae Jordan of Danbury, Connecticut; one brother-in-law, Jerry Smith of Conway, SC; five sisters-in-law, Lena Mae of Aynor, SC, Shirley Smith and Frances Mishoe both of Conway, SC, Pauline Stone of Bronx, NY and Terre (Cookie) Jones of Sumter, SC; eleven grandchildren; thirty-one great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
