SELENA MAE SMITH PRYOR, resident of Myrtle Beach, formerly of Conway passed away peacefully on Monday, January 8, 2024 at Conway Hospital at the age of 84 years of natural causes. She was born on October 10, 1939 in the Bayboro Community of Loris, SC to Elijah Smith, Sr. and Fronie Brown Smith. On December 9, 1957, she married Junior Preston Pryor in Horry County. She attended and became a member of New Bethel A.M.E. Church since her youth where she later served on the Trustee Board for many years.
Selena was a devoted wife and a loving mother. She made sure her children were well provided for regardless of what it was. She taught herself to maintain hair as a stylist as well as teaching herself to sew clothing. She was a hardworking woman. In her earlier years and until Linda moved to Atlanta, they did almost everything together as mother and daughter. In the latter stage of her life, she affectionally referred to Lucille as “her baby girl”, and “Doodle” as her caretaker and boss. She and Sharon often cried, joked, and laughed together, and Sharon stated that she was a mother-like figure in her life.
Selena leaves to cherish her loving memory eight (8) children; James Pryor, Jr. (Mary) of Conway, SC; Lucille Simmons (John Henry) of Myrtle Beach, SC; Selena Ford of Galivants Ferry, SC; Linda Owens of Riverdale, GA; Thomas Pryor, Sr. (Wendy) of Myrtle Beach, SC; Gregory Pryor, Sr. (Sharon) of Myrtle Beach, SC; Geoffrey Pryor, Sr. of Myrtle Beach, SC; Felicia Campbell (Anthony) of Galivants Ferry, SC. Twenty-Two Grandchildren; Two Special Grandchildren, Knowledge Bethea of Conway, SC and Monique Pryor of Myrtle Beach, SC; Many Great and Great-Great Grandchildren; One Sister, Sarah Ford (Trenton) of Conway, SC; A Host of Nieces and Nephews; A Special Nephew, Cory D. Mitchell of Conway, SC; and Other Relatives.
Selena was preceded in death by her husband, Junior Preston Pryor; both of her parents, Elijah Smith, Sr. and Fronie B. Smith; three of her sisters, Mattie Mitchell, Kazzie Garner, and Fronie Mae McCray; one of her brothers, Elijah Smith, Jr.; and four (4) Grandchildren.
