Deacon Wilbur L. Benbow, better known as “Pete”, son of the late Reverend John I. Benbow and Marian V. Benbow, was born June 22, 1950, In Lane, SC. He transitioned to his heavenly home on April 7, 2025, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center In Myrtle Beach, SC. Pete was educated In the Williamsburg County School System and later attended Claflin University in Orangeburg, SC. Pete moved to Queens, New York where he met Pamela, and they married In 1977. This union was blessed with two children, Johnathan and Ashlee and three grandchildren, Anna, Johnathan, and Tristan.
Deacon Benbow was a devoted member of Cherry Hill Missionary Baptist Church In Conway, SC for over 45 years. He was appointed to the Deacon’s Ministry by the late Reverend H.H. Singleton. He loved his church and church family and served In a variety of positions. He served as an usher, Sunday School Teacher for the Youth and for the adult couple’s class. He loved to sing and sang with the Jubilee Choir, The Men’s Chorus, and the Combined Musical Choir. Pete worked for Sears Department Stores In Flushing, NY In sewing machines and then moved to the automotive department for over 15 years. IN 1979, Pete and Pam moved to Myrtle Beach, SC where Pete continued to work for Sears until he and Pam created their business, Hearing Health Care, P.A. After 38 years In practice, they retired In 2018. Pete loved gardening, bowling, hunting, and golfing. He also enjoyed grilling and watching TV westerns.
Those left to cherish his legacy are Pamela, his wife of 48 years, his children Johnathan (Trahana) Benbow and Ashlee Benbow; his grandchildren Anna Rebecca, Johnathan Michael, and Tristan Warrick. His siblings John Benbow, Jr. of Lane, SC, Daisy (Ranie) Burgess of Lane, SC, Johnnie Mae Hudson of Long Island, NY, Henry (Rochelle) Benbow of Lane, SC, Nora Lane Benbow of Manning, SC, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many dear friends.
